How to Organize a Corporate Walking Challenge

A practical playbook for HR leaders and team managers to launch a virtual walkathon or walking challenge that actually keeps people engaged — using Walk With Me's WalkVerse and Corporate dashboards.

Why walking challenges work

Walking is the most inclusive form of movement — no gym, no gear, no skill barrier. A well-designed corporate walking challenge boosts steps by 30–50% across the average team while creating shared moments across offices, cities and even countries.

Step 1 — Pick a format

  • Virtual walkathon: one shared goal (e.g. 10,000 km together) with a live progress bar.
  • Team leaderboard: departments or offices compete on average steps per person.
  • Territory / WalkVerse mode: teams claim virtual city tiles as they walk.

Step 2 — Set a realistic goal

For a 4-week challenge, aim for ~8,000 steps/day per participant. A 100-person team will comfortably cover 15,000–20,000 km collectively. Set the number just above what feels achievable — stretch, not impossible.

Step 3 — Launch it inside WalkVerse

Create a private club in WalkVerse, invite your team by email, and open a Walkathon with your goal distance. Everyone's walks — tracked via phone GPS or synced from Strava/Apple Health — automatically contribute to the shared bar.

Step 4 — Keep engagement high

  • Post a weekly recap in the feed with the top 3 movers.
  • Add small mid-challenge missions (e.g. "walk 5 km before 9am").
  • Celebrate the finish line publicly — photos, badges, and a wrap-up email.
